Living Wages

In Uncategorized by Scott Ness

Ethically Sourced coffee means living wages for the hardest working folks in the supply chain.

Delicious coffee without guilt that provides you with bold and smooth coffee and the peace of mind in knowing you are supporting the farmers and workers who grew and picked these beans. The typical coffee farmer receives about 1 penny for each cup of coffee sold in supermarkets and cafes. 1 Penny. A typical Honduran (where one of our partner farms is located) has to work for 2 days to earn enough wages for 1 day of food. Those numbers don't add up. And coffee farmers are even lower on the pay scale.

We, at Raya Coffee, are not satisfied with those numbers. And we hope you aren't either! Help us make the world different for our coffee farmers. Join us in giving our farmers a fighting chance.

With our partners, Alma Coffee, we have come alongside farmers in the Copan region of Honduras. Here are some of the benefits that you support with each sip of Raya Coffee:

  • Clean & Fresh Water

Processing high quality coffee beans requires quality water. Our well supports our production, and the farmers (as well as the local village as they need it).

  • A Place to Lay Your Head

Coffee Farming requires seasonal workers to help bring in the harvest. Drinking Raya Coffee helps to provide sheltered bunk houses for our seasonal workers. Typically these seasonal workers sleep in the fields. Our workers are also paid a minimum of 30% more than the industry standard.

  • Powering a Village

Our partner farm was off the grid. But having consistent power is a key element in bringing you high quality coffee. In building the infrastructure of our farm we also ensured that the benefit of electricity was provided to our neighbors as well.
